Introduction to Endurant

Mixing and Application

Clean Up

Get the best results with Endurant by following these guidelines:

Supplies

Endurant Turf Paint is mixed with water and applied with a garden sprayer, which is available at almost any hardware store or garden center. A garden sprayer that is at least one gallon is recommended; a bigger backpack-style sprayer is useful if painting a large space and will provide more even coverage as well. Either a conical or flat fan nozzle will work. Larger areas, such as golf courses or sports fields, can apply Endurant with their spray rigs.

Preparation

If painting actively growing grass, mow prior to painting to avoid cutting off the colorant once applied. Maintain a turf height close to 1 inch if possible. Lower dense turf colors best. Remove any debris from the lawn (grass clippings, leaves, sticks, dog toys). Wet or cover surrounding concrete areas to avoid accidental overspray. Endurant may stain clothing.

Weather

Check that rain is not in the forecast for at least 8 hours. Avoid spraying in windy conditions. Endurant may be applied to slightly moist grass (dew, frost, irrigation, rain) but adjust drying time accordingly. Endurant may also be applied to dry grass.

Mix

Stir colorant prior to mixing. Mix the Endurant according to the label. General guidelines for rates are to mix at a ratio of 15:1 water to color. Do not dilute the colorant beyond recommended rates; too much water will overly dilute the binder in the mix and the colorant will not last or adhere to the grass blade properly. Higher concentrations of paint may be used to achieve darker results. Read the entire Endurant label and follow the product guidelines. Whether painting dormant turf, dead grass, or actively growing grass, the application method will be almost the same. The application rates, however, may vary.

For turf professionals, mixing Endurant with other chemicals is generally safe. However, it is important to contact the supplier of the products and/or perform a jar test. Additionally, consider that Endurant needs to fully dry on the leaf blade or the surface of plants, trees, or mulch. So any products mixed with Endurant should probably be a foliar because you do not water-in Endurant.

Paint

Use the finest mist setting to help reduce waste and promote even coverage. Pump pressure should be in the 40-60 PSI range. Work from the back to the front of the area to avoid stepping on wet paint. Apply in a circular or sweeping motion.

Many turfgrass professionals opt to apply Endurant in a two-coat method: spray a light coating of paint and let it dry for 15 to 20 minutes, then apply a second coat perpendicular to the first coat. This method provides overall better coverage of the leaf blade and results in a particularly even, long-lasting finish that will reduce the chance of streaking, footprints, and tire marks. That said, the two-coat method is not required. Experiment in a small area to find your desired color, shade, mix ratio, and technique. Carefully apply Endurant to edges to avoid overspray on concrete, pavers, fences, plants, and other areas near the grass.

Clean Up

Wash out the sprayer immediately after use. Flush grass paint equipment with water. Equipment should not sit overnight with colorant in it because it could clog nozzles with the paint. If accidental overspray occurs, immediately clean the area with water. A window cleaner or wire brush may help remove stains.

Dry

Grass will be dry to the touch in about 60 minutes. For best results wait at least two hours after spraying before walking on the grass to prevent tracking. For areas with heavier use, like golf courses, remain off the grass for three to four hours. Try to let the turf paint dry for 8 to 24 hours prior to heavy rain. For sports fields, it is recommended to paint the turf several days before the event. In very humid conditions, turfgrass can take up to 24 hours to dry completely. Do not allow pets on the grass until you have ensured that it is fully dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Organic turf paint is a great solution to manage dead-looking brown grass that is a result of weather conditions, drought, water restrictions, neglect, damage, or over-use.

Endurant turf paint provides instant results and achieves a gorgeous color that may otherwise not be possible, or would take gallons of chemicals, water, and many additional hours of labor.

Turf paint allows turfgrasses to get the look of being overseeded but at a fraction of the cost and water requirements. Using a turf colorant reduces the overall amount of chemical inputs needed for lawn management.

Turf paint can be used to cover an entire area, such as a lawn during drought conditions. It can also be a useful tool to hide unsightly blemishes such as a turf area suffering from disease or nutritional deficiencies or to cover damage caused by golfers, vehicles, overuse or pets.

Turf paint can be used regularly or as needed. Listing a house for sale? Or preparing an outdoor area for a wedding ceremony? Endurant is a quick, safe, environmentally friendly way to make the lawn picture-perfect.

  • Not at all. Endurant turf paint is organic, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and contains no harsh chemicals. It is biodegradable and safe for the environment. Once dry, it is safe for children and pets and will not rub off on clothes or feet.

Traditional lawn care practices can have negative effects on water supplies, water quality, and the environment. Endurant organic turf paint is less expensive and less damaging than overseeding, over-fertilzing, and over-watering.

Endurant can lead to tremendous water usage savings and reduction in other harsh chemicals.

  • Endurant does not wash off in the rain or wear off on your shoes. As long as Endurant has had a couple of hours to dry after application, rain and irrigation will not affect the permanency of Endurant turf colorant.

  • For years, turf paint has been the secret weapon of golf course superintendents and other athletic field professionals. Endurant can be applied wall-to-wall to make turf “camera-ready” or can be subtly spot-applied to camouflage damaged areas.

Real estate professionals use Endurant grass paint to prepare a house for sale. Increased curb appeal can mean less time on the market and increased home value and sale prices. An application of Endurant prior to taking real estate photos or hosting an open house can dramatically boost the home’s exterior aesthetic.

Homeowners who appreciate the visual impact of a perfectly green lawn - especially during drought conditions and water restrictions - use Endurant to keep their lawn green without excessive water. HOA communities avoid dead-looking grass and violations from pet-soiled lawns.

Wedding and event planners apply Endurant turf paint to their venues to keep their grass looking picture-perfect

Hotels and municipalities use Endurant to keep their green spaces and common areas looking top-notch with less maintenance time, lower costs, and less water.

Many landscaper companies offer Endurant paint as part of their services.

  • Endurant turf paint lasts up to three months, depending on the grass’s growth rate, the frequency of mowing, the type of grass, and the weather. High-traffic areas, fast-growing grass, and very wet weather will reduce the longevity of an application.

  • Endurant turf paint is made with organic pigments combined with binders made for the colorant to adhere exceptionally well to turfgrass.

Endurant’s unique blend of high quality binders and surfactants make the pigment spread evenly over the surface of the blade while also penetrating the waxy surface of the grass. Endurant is not like a colorant that would wash or peel off.

All Endurant products are non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

  • Absolutely. Once Endurant turf paint is dry, usually in just one to two hours after applying, it is safe to walk on. For best results, wait two hours after spraying before walking on the grass to prevent tracking and to ensure an even finish. If the area will have heavy use, such as athletic fields, give one full day to dry before re-entry.

  • Turf paint is applied with a garden sprayer, which is available at almost any hardware store or garden center. A garden sprayer that is at least one gallon is recommended; a bigger backpack-style sprayer is useful if painting a large space.

Mow grass prior to painting to avoid cutting off the colorant once applied. Remove any debris from the lawn. Check that rain is not in the forecast for at least 8 hours. Avoid spraying in windy conditions. Apply to dry or slightly damp lawn.

Cover sidewalks or other edge materials to avoid accidental overspray. If overspray occurs, rinse immediately with water. A window cleaner or wire brush may help remove stains if necessary. Endurant may stain clothing.

Read the entire Endurant label and follow the product guidelines.

Wash out the sprayer immediately after use.

  • No. Endurant turf paint does not harm the plant, soil, roots, or the environment. Remember that you will still need to water the grass enough to keep it alive.

  • Yes. The Endurant line of grass paints was formulated to specifically match the most common varieties of turfgrass. It looks very natural. Endurant is the top choice for turf professionals preparing turf areas such as a golf course or football field for televised professional sporting events.

  • Endurant does contain pigments that can stain anything green while the paints are drying. Protect the areas you don’t want to be stained by covering them and/or carefully painting along edges. Wear protective clothing.

  • No. Endurant paints fade on tone so it remains natural looking as it fades.

  • It is also okay to apply Endurant when it is very hot. Heat does not alter the application. It is also acceptable to apply Endurant in cold temperatures. The main consideration is to apply Endurant on a day when the temperature will reach at least 5 degrees C. It is okay to apply Endurant when there is frost or when the temperature is near freezing as long as the temperature will at some point reach 5 degrees C on the day of application so that the paint will cure properly.

Paints and pigments should not be stored where they will be exposed to extreme temperatures.

  • No, Endurant does not adversely affect the process of photosynthesis, respiration, or growth. Endurant does not create a film or barrier on the leaf blade like regular paint would. Several university studies have shown that Endurant does not cause a significant decline in photosynthesis.

  • Most people paint grass because it is brown, dormant, drought-stricken, and/or not growing. Therefore, most people are not frequently mowing the lawn after painting grass. Longevity of turf colorant is primarily based on vertical growth.

In some cases, primarily professional settings such as golf courses and sports turf, apply colorant to actively growing grass. Vertical growth of grass does not reduce the longevity of colorants but you should mow just prior to paint application to avoid mowing off the color.

Sports field managers and golf course superintendents often spray turf weekly or biweekly for other reasons and often find it easy and economical to add colorant, including pigments such as TE or Flex, to actively growing grass.

  • Consider the current color of the grass.

Pigments (Endurant Turf Enhancer and Endurant Flex) are applied to actively growing green grass. The pigments are used when the grass has some chlorophyll that is keeping the grass some shade of green.

Paints (including the most popular in the line, Endurant Premium and Endurant Perennial Rye) may be used on grass at any time, but are usually used on grass that is brown, dormant, drought-stressed, and/or no longer actively growing.

  • Mixing Endurant with other chemicals is generally safe. However it is important to contact the supplier of the products and/or perform a jar test.

Consider the nature of the other products to be applied. Endurant needs to remain on the leaf blade for optimal results; do not water-in Endurant colorants. Therefore any products mixed with Endurant should probably be a foliar.

Turf professionals such as sports field managers and golf course superintendents often use Endurant Turf Enhancer or Endurant Flex as indicator pigments that will give some added aesthetic appeal during foliar nutrition applications.

  • Endurant Turf Colorants are made to endure a lot. The color, once applied and dried, will last through rain, show, heat, and traffic. People and pets can walk on the painted grass and the color remains.

On golf courses, Endurant colorants will last on the grass but much like overseeded turf or grass of any type, cart traffic can leave markings. Scattering cart traffic will help reduce damage. The colorant will last on the grass but heavy usage can take a toll and damage grass nonetheless.

If a painted turf area is going to be exposed to extremely high friction, such as an event lawn, sports field, or certain areas of a golf course, consider adding Endurant Spray n Stay to your application. Spray n Stay is a non-toxic binder that adds extra staying power to Endurant turf colorants and pigments and reduces the chance of colorant transfer and grass stains on uniforms.

  • Endurant Turf Colorants are safe on equipment and pumps. We recommend cleaning directly after use to avoid the risk of clogging spray nozzles with dried paint. Rinse turf equipment with water directly after use and do not store equipment with paint inside.

  • Application rates may vary based upon the depth of shade users desire. The best application rate is listed on the container but it is a matter of preference if you want to apply more colorant for a deeper color result.

Recommended mix rates are 15:1 water to color. Do not dilute to lower rates. This could affect the durability of Endurant because when diluting Endurant beyond this 15:1 rate, using more water doesn’t just dilute the color, it also dilutes the binder. This could prevent Endurant from lasting as long and staying on the leaf blade.

The generally recommended application rates for golf courses per acre for Endurant Premium and Endurant Perennial Rye are 6-10 gallons per acre for fairways and rates of 2-5 gallons per acre for greens; Endurant Turf Enhancer is generally applied at rates of 16-32 ounces per acres of fairways and 4-12 ounces per acre on greens.
